There is a brand new show in town.. well not MY town. The town is Austin Texas! And it just so happens I'll be in Texas teaching and able to swing on over for a day of merriment at the first QuiltCon next week!
The Modern Quilt Guild started a Link Party so we can get to know each other better and MAYBE recognize a face of the person behind a blog we so love.
Above.. is my current face... new glasses.. and I may have on lipstick.. see below
We are all sharing 5 little known things about ourselves. little know... me... mmmm.... I seem to tell you EVERYTHING about myself... down to the shade of nailpolish I have on (penny right now) you only have to ask! So if you have been hanging out with me, you already know pretty much EVERYTHING.
But I dug DEEP for 5 things you MAY NOT KNOW
- Let's get that Lipstick thing out in the open right away. I LOVE the idea of lipstick, the look of it, but hate wearing it. It comes off in 15 seconds flat and I never seem to be able to wear it for very long!
- If you have been following my trials and tribulations on eating healthy, you heard I'm a picky eater. I may be MUCH WORSE than described. I may actually be a SNOBBY picky eater. I only like to eat REALLY GOOD FOOD anymore.
- I say I'm a 'city girl' and I mean it. I get a bit weired out over farm talk and think ALL animals should be house pets.. even the cows.. because aren't they people too?
- I can NOT ride a bicycle. I WANT to ride one but I'm fell off one in high school and messed up my shoulder, which apparently has rendered me a bicycle idiot. I am totally unbalanced when I get on one and everyone within a mile should stay out of my way!
- You will rarely see me write anything by hand except my name. My handwriting is atrocious. Not even the worst Dr. writing can beat my hand notes. Gregg (the shipping Department) has been married to me for 33 yrs this summer and HE can not read it. pfffssstt.. It is VERY GOOD that I LOVE to type!
- BONUS item.. I'm ADDICTED to nail polish.. but ONLY paint my nails myself.. I can't stand to go to a salon, it takes too long!
I'd love to hear 5 things about YOU!
Look for our car.. if you see me wave!
CLICK HERE to my EVENTS calendar.. I'd love to come visit you, send me an invite!

My five are...addictive peanut butter cookie problem! My Black belt in Kajukenbo karate, which is my secret weapon; ex- marathon runner with bad knees and hip :(, I'm starting to love owls and the color red! Just like my mom. It seems that many of share your love for nail polish and disdain for lipstick! I have a lot of odd polish colors. As much as I love polish, I can't wear it at work and I could swear my fingernails feel like they can't breathe with it on! Lol!
Quilt on, Pat!

1. I love cats and can speak "Meow" fluently.
2. I listen to loud rock and roll music when I'm alone in my car.
3. I wear thrift store clothes so I can buy more fabric.
4. I have a quilting room but usually sew at the dining room table.
5. I love everything from the 40's and 50's.

1. I learned to swim at age 40--as I was taking my first big trip to St. Thomas. It was also my first airplane flight. I'm a late bloomer!
2. I married for the first time at age 43! I was waiting for Mr. Right and I found him!
3. I don't like to clean....but will have at least 2 major cleaning rampages a year---never at the same time of year, though! LOL!
4. I love love love Christmas! If I had my way, every room in the house would be decorated---I've even decorated the bathrooms with small trees! And I have enough ornaments for 4 full-sized trees (at least 4)!
5. I have two notebooks completely full of pictures of quilts that I have cut out from magazines----that I would love to make someday.....but there will never be enough time. So I just pull out the books and drool over all these fabulous quilts!

Five things about me:
1. I can drive a tractor. It's been years but I used to drive an antique John Deere. And I grew up in town.
2. I have to have a cat in the house. It's not a home without a furry friend.
3. I'm learning to be more relaxed about life. I've given up worrying as it just made me sick.
4. I've got more friends than I can shake a stick at. They keep me going. I belong to the WKWC - Well Kept Woman's Club - made up after we all lost our jobs. Two of us work part-time now.
5. My boys are my greatest creations. They've opened my eyes to my many blessings in life.

Fun! Love reading the comments.
1. I have a secret love affair with Hall's Black Cherry Sugar Free cough drops. Almost as good as candy. I have to limit myself to one every couple of days.
2. I love weeding and trimming hedges. It's the "cutting-out" thing.
Love cutting fabric, too.
3. I always wanted to deliver mail. Thank God for email! I'm a virtual postal person.
4. I like to make my own coffee at home. Not crazy about fancy coffee drinks.
5. I'd love to can veggies and fruit. It's a great idea, but doesn't work into my schedule when the stuff is ripe:)
Have a wonderful day! I'm sewing with friends. Fun!

#1) I have a blog that no body visits, probably because the content sucks.
#2) I hate fish. And I mean, abhor it. I won't eat it. I won't have it for a pet. I hate the smell. My kitties eat chicken.
#3) I have a fabric addiction that borders on needing FAA intervention. I bought more of it tonight, and have so many UFOs I really ought to shoot myself for spending money just to make more of them!
#4) I am a breast cancer survivor, but I hate pink, and can't stand commercials for breast cancer awareness and 3 day runs.
#5) I'm crazy for snowmen and the Coca Cola polar bears.

I love lipstick but like you, it won't stay on my lips. I keep buying new ones and they are all the same. :-(
Let's see......
1. I can ride a bike but I did not learn to swim until I was in my late 20's. Husband said I couldn't take the kids to the beach if I couldn't swim so I had to take adult guppie classes. Two years later I had learned to swim!!
2. I didn't take a liking to coffee until I was in my late 50's. When they started adding Snicker's bars and whipped cream, I was all for it. LOL!
3. I often get compliments on my hand-writing. And when I do, I always give thanks to my mother who can still write like those examples above the chalkboard at school. And I love to color and glitter and make cards. I love an old-fashioned hand-written note.
4. I can sing most any old hymn or folk song acapella and stay on pitch. And that's thanks to my grandma and my music teacher, Mrs. Parr. Sometimes, I would rather sing than sew. :-)
5. I love pie........ alot! ;-)

2. I love the thought of sitting in a comfortable chair drinking a cup of coffee or tea but I don't really like hot dirnks.
3. I would love to wear lipstick but I have small lips and it looks like I am always puckering them. So I don't wear any.
4. I quilt on the dining room table and quite a few times we eat in the living!
5. I have 11 cats! I know I'm crazy!

Let's see....
1. I love lipstick too, but it doesn't love me. Never been able to do makeup every day and look nice, so I don't.
2. I can't swim.
3. My favorite TV channel is Animal Planet ... lions, tigers, and bears, oh my!
4. I lived in the same city that I was born in (in New York State) for 62 years of my life. Just moved to North Carolina last year.
5. Its on my bucket list to drive cross country (alone or accompanied) to see all the touristy stuff like Graceland, Mt Rushmore, Hoover Dam, etc. Oh and maybe a few quilt shops too! :-)

I'm digging for five things, Pat :):
1. I am a coffee snob. I love really good flavorful coffee…I seldom find that in restaurants and the “regular” coffee in the grocery store doesn’t qualify either. My favorite is 100% Kona (not a blend) but it’s too expensive. Coffee shop coffees are good. I found what brand of coffee my local coffee shop uses and I buy it from Amazon.com for home use.
2. I don’t like salad. I don’t like to make salad and could live the rest of my life without ever eating a salad. I have fed myself and my family healthy foods for the past 35+ years (natural, no white sugar, no white flour, only whole grains, no pop, and very minimal junk food snacks, etc.) so I’m into healthy eating and I want to like salads because they’re so good for you but… I don’t.
3. I never leave the house without earrings on. I can skip bracelets, necklaces, and rings and be fine but I don’t feel completely dressed if I forget earrings.
4. I love nail polish and have a little drawer full, but I hardly ever wear it…seems like I don’t have time to put it on.
5. I am close with my two dil’s. One of them has given birth to her last 6 children at home with a midwife and I have been at all of the births at the request of my dil…she says I am a calming presence. In about 3 months she will be giving birth again and I will be there. This will be my 12th grandchild.

Let's see, of course there is soooo much you don't know about me (why would you? haha) -
1.Before I was a quilter and quilt shop owner, I was a doll & bear maker...and before that...an Elementary Music Teacher
2.When my best friend got married I was her maid of honor...I met the 'best man' for the first time at her wedding...turned out to be the BEST man for me...I married him :)
3.Love lipstick...it doesn't love me.
4.Coffee without Hazelnut creamer...just isn't.
5.After 30+yrs of being 'self-employed' - I've JUST turned in paperwork THIS afternoon to "moonlight" (because afterall, I have at least a couple extra hours a week-haha)... I just joined the Weight Watchers 'family' - AMAZING! :)

I am addicted to popcorn.
Love looking at the stars on a clear night.
My favorite bed buddy is my pointer dog.
Can hardly pass up a flea market.
Don't tell my hubby, but I really enjoy mowing the yard.:)

I am the same way about lipstick! Thank goodness for tinted lip balm.

1. My favorite tv show is PM Style on QVC Monday nights while reading a good book.
2. Chocolate is the best medicine for depression, fatigue, lack of motivation. I get the best results from peanut m&ms.
3. I have a secret desire to do flower gardening and landscaping but am afraid of what neighbors will think and feel self-conscious being seen working outside.
4. Enjoying the process of cleaning closets and taking items to salvation army and goodwill.
5. Looking forward to moving to a new home in Carson City, Nevada.

Hahaha - ohmygawsh you're my long lost quilting nail polish sister!! I'm sort of addicted to nail polish too...and nail plates, nail gems, nail stickers and nail stamps. It's a problem. My Mother in Law bought my daughters a barbie nail printer for Christmas...and I use it more than them. :)

1. I make my own latte in the morning - because I love to sit with my coffee in the early morning quiet before the day starts.
2. I can hang with the best of the watching wrestling on tv - the entertaining kind, not the sport;-)
3. I like my feet to be a little on the cold side, but I can't stand to NOT wear socks or slippers - still can't figure out how that works
4. I am a master at building Thomas the Tank Engine Train Tracks
5. I agree with you on the lipstick thing too
Posted by: celia | Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 05:16 PM
Not going to list 5 things about me - but like you I am a nail polish addict, and rarely go to a salon. I have probably a good 100 nail polishes (if not more).
Posted by: Valerie | Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 05:00 PM
I love the look of lipstick but cant wear it at all. just the feel of something on my lips drives me nuts. Closest I can get is carmex and even with that i put it on at night when Im sleeping, wearing it during the day drives me nuts!
whats really sad is I love to dress up and look pretty and the minute I put make up on my face I am miserable and itchy. The wicked eye make up that I so love to admire, cant be on mine, eyes turn red and watery!
Im terrified of walking alone in the dark. it could be a well light street in the middle of town with lots of people and I am still not comfortable doing it. Nope!
Love your car plate! Someday it would be fun to have you up here in the pacific northwest! Id be the first to sign up!

Well I did learn something new about you!. I have the excat same problem with lip stick. My sister always keeps hers perfect don't aske me how. My DD same...me 5 minutes max.
I did not know about the nail polish. I like nail polish. I love how it looks. I hate how long it takes to dry. I will get a pedi at a salon but can not do my fingernails. I don't think I have ever done fingernails and not messed them up. I really like pretty toe nails :).
I don't mind typing, but I am not fast. I like to write things. (Must be all those hours the Nuns made us practice cursive LOL)
Posted by: Beth | Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 01:14 PM
No I'm not a bit surprised that your handwritting it messy. Look at your quilts - they are all swirls and fun and not straight up and down neat precise lines. Although it must be really bad if your hubby can't read it. You know there are only three people in the world that can read my mother's, her three daughters. And it takes us a while to figure it out. LOL

Didn't know you can't ride a 2 wheeler??? Lipstick was made to stay in the tube & be pretty as is. No, I have never found one to stay on for more than a blink of the eye!

I love nail polish too! And I don't wear lipstick much anymore. The big thing we have in common is that I'm celebrating 33 years of marriage this summer too!
