Do you remember this quilt top I finished for Jackie's Blogger's BOM? I LOVED doing this Block Of the Month. But you know.... When in NYC I found out that I must just have TOO MUCH going on because I totally forgot I'd set the blocks.
How could I forget I'd set the blocks?
CLICK HERE for my first post about the Block of the Month
I was just up in NYC to visit Victoria(and be sure to see the photos on her blog from this visit) and she asked me if I wanted to meet her quilt friends on Saturday..
H E Double Toothpicks..... yeah!!! I always love meeting quilters!! So she invited a bunch of the quilters over to her place and we did some show and tell.
This is where my brain left my body... I'm hoping it returns soon.... I sort of need it.
Margaret (on the left) finished HER blogger's block of the month and I have SERIOUS envy. What a WONDERFUL setting! The blocks are in the border, I LOVE her HST center.. and told her I was going to go home and copy this... YES... COPY IT! (I am yelling.. that's so Margaret can hear me as she doesn't have a blog for me to write on)
I got home Sunday night and headed right for the bag with the blocks (of course I did... I'm not making that up... you've done that right?)
And what did I find in that bag?
A TOP!!!!
To say I was shocked is an understatement... I really really really thought it was still blocks.
sooooooooooo
The top is kind of ... BORING.... let's look at improving it
I think it needs the red polka dot.
this is a cosmos cricket line from Moda and the dot is part of the line.
Option 1 - The dark red. I don't have any solid red and I'm not buying any.. but that red is similar and reads pretty solid.
Option 2 - there is green in the blocks. So option 2 is a green tonal that will pull that green out and repeat it. It is similar but softer than the solid green in the blocks.
Option 3 is the 2nd green fabric choice. This one is lighter than the block green, and has a zig zag that I really like.
The binding will be the same black fabric I used in the setting.
** WHICH inner border would you use? **

AND.. go to my post yesterday and tell me if you share photos on a flickr page, pinterest, blog, or somewhere! Put a link in my link party... I'm going to be doing a weekly show and tell in 2013 and you are going to want to be in on it!

The red makes the whole quilt POP.

I lean to Red and Red! They make that top pop! I like the others..they would not be a bad choice..just different!!!

Option 2 red polka dots and light green inner border.

Red inner border - the greens do nothing for the quilt even tho it has green in it. I was thinking red before I saw it was an option.

dark red inner border is my favorite.

Love, love, love the red polka dots for the outer border. Also love the dark red for the inner border. I see your reasoning for the greens, but honestly, those greens just sort of put that top to sleep - yawn! Definitely the dark red - but then I'm always partial to red.

I would use option #1 the almost solid red. I love this BOM!

No doubt about it - option 1 red/red is the best choice. Love it Pat.

Option 3

#2.... I love the darker green pulling out the bits of green in the top...

Option 1-RED! love it!

I would use the red inner border with the polka dot outer border for sure.

I think I would choose a "greener" green. Not too dark, just a liitle more green :)

I really like Option 3. Ah, yes, the brain. It's a funny thing how it can remember to do stuff and later forget it was done. Happens to me all the time but I love the discovery of blocks finished or tops waiting for a border, cards addressed but never sent, books bought once then again because I thought I didn't have that one ........you get the picture. ;-)

The red looks good, but I know that line and I really like the idea of that first green. I think it brings out that green in the fabric and is a bit unexpected.
I wish I would find a top I thought was still blocks. ;)

Option 3

I love love love the red inner border with the red polka dot outer border. It really makes the reds pop!

Love the red dot and the dark red inner border. That's my choice!
Posted by: Lois Moore | Wednesday, January 09, 2013 at 10:37 AM
I would go with option #2 for a narrow border and that luscious red as an outer border..
Posted by: Eileen DiPietro | Wednesday, January 09, 2013 at 10:35 AM
Option - none. I like the blocks floating on the black. Step back and look. It's perfect now. Just add a little black binding so you don't draw eyes away from what is important.

I love the red dots. It would go well with your gorgeous piecing
Posted by: Susan | Wednesday, January 09, 2013 at 10:23 AM
I love th polka dot, it really adds some zing to the blocks. But instead of a plain little framing border ( which I don't much like these days) you could still play with the half square triangles and do an inner border of those using the lighter green and the darker red. The same as the setting you admired Pat but different.....lol!

1 red/red I think looks great with those great blocks!
