When I saw the "In Your Words" blog hop announced at sewwequilt.com,I had to Join the fun!
You know I have a very long love affair with Letters, Quotes, Books, Text...
In Highschool I learned to type on a manual typewriter and my love of the shapes of letters never seems to end. I'm a "If you put words on it, I'll buy" it kind of gal!
Right from the start.. as soon as I learned to applique, I put words on my quilts. I teach applique with "Heartfelt Welcome" at times, and it is always such fun to see how everyone creates their own version of this quilt (which includes that welcome stitchery!). I've seen it made in cottage fabrics, brights, black/white and red.. you name it, you can do it!
I think words make the project so much more personal, don't you?
You can really say things with your quilt... things that last.. things that will be there for your family and friends to see for years to come.
Since 2006 I've picked a 'Word for the Year'. This year it is CREATE, and you can read about my other words ... but really... let's not discussion the need for 'Twinkle' all year.. (what was I thinking!)
Do you pick a word for the year? You do? I'd love to know what it is!
My Quilt 'Be Thankful' sums up a lot about me. I'm thankful to work in a business that I love, doing something I love each and everyday. I'm thankful for all my quilt friends (that's YOU!) ...especially those of you who hang out with me all the time.. SMOOCHES to you! You make my days here working by myself joyful! And when you invite me to teach.. oh that is THE ICING on the cake! I totally love meeting you in person!
I must say that I'm itching to make up my 'Be Thankful' in my new fabric line "Eat Your Fruits n' Veggies" ... maybe with the reds... mmmmm. I love the baskets, the vine, the berries... I never tire of this quilt.. which is good isn't it?
Over the years I've put words on many many quilts!
Here is an idea for you... take any block and use festive fabric, like these cupcakes... YUM!!!! Set the block so it's a nice wallhanging or table topper size.. 30" square or so. Using a tonal border, add "Happy Birthday" with the name of the person.. birthdate.. etc..
It's an INSTANT Party!
The hop asked us to talk words.. and the others in this hop have written some amazing stories. I decided to devote my newest quilt to my husband Gregg. (yes that IS Mushy... he thinks so too). When I was thinking of the words to use ....this saying popped into my head and didn't leave...
"I love you to the Moon and Back"
Maybe because of our New Year's eve trip HERE to see 'our' space shuttle at the Smithsonian. To make this quilt really personal.. so it lasts a lifetime.. I put our initials on it. This does make it EXTRA mushy you know.. wink! (FYI - I fondly refer to Gregg as The Shipping Department.. and when we travel to visit you .. you'll get to meet him!)
Instead of a giveway... I have a present for EACH of YOU...

Love this quilt Pat! I say this phrase to my sweet little boys every morning as I drop them off at school. They always answer with something similar, like I love you more than all the leaves on that tree or something equally little boy like. This quilt touches my heart!!

First, thank you for you gift. It is a darling quilt and I know you'll enjoy it for years. Thanks for the invite to see the space shuttle - that would be fantastic! I'm really sorry that the shuttle program was shuttled. Unofficially, I've joined the UFO stash busting. I have a journal beside me with the first notes regarding "Know what you have." As soon as these Christmas decorations are finally packed and stashed, I will begin my UFO LIST.
