When my good friend Emily Cier of Carolina Patchwork asked me if I'd like to be on her book tour I was so excited I could barely get the 'YES' typed out! Emily has an amazing flair for design and color combos... so any book she does is full of wonderful inspirations!
What is neat about her latest book is it's theme, Pixels!
So what IS a Pixel anyway?
"Short for Picture Element, a pixel is a single point in a graphic image. Graphics monitors display pictures by dividing the display screen into thousands (or millions) of pixels, arranged in rows and columns. The pixels are so close together that they appear connected."
Oh my .... be still my heart... you know I'm a GEEK RIGHT???? Computer Science major and programmer of software for over 20 years... I HEART GEEKY THINGS!
But this is NOT a Geeky quilt book. it is WAY Better than that!
Emily's intro talks about how her children love her to make quilts for them of their favorite characters.
She says "I’ve learned that the pixel technique is my best friend when it comes to quilts for my family. It’s the perfect marriage of simplicity and flexibility. Countless millions of different shapes and scenes can be built from simple strips and squares, yet require sewing only straight lines."
Emily asked me to share what MY favorite image would have been if I had been asking my mom to make me a quilt when I was a kid.
I had to think about this, as I did love my Barbies, and I had some other dolls I'm sure were pretty high up on my 'love list'
But I think I'd have liked someone to make me a quilt with a HAMSTER on it!
This is the Hamster Dance.. have you been on the internet long enough to remember it? there IS an official website for it! http://www.webhamster.com/
I decided that since I just returned from a cruise to the Bahamas, "Deception Cove" is my favorite! Emily gives you detailed layouts on how to sew these quilts by strips and it is awesome!
She gives you this fabulous chart and a sewing diagram
So what do you think? Should I do a Hamster?
I had 2 hamsters... Janice and Sam
Isn't this ADORABLE?? you'll never look at cheez-its the same way again

No pets when I was a kid unless you count the frogs I brought home or the snakes I thought I was rescuing from my brother! I did buy my dad a goose for christmas named Charlie. It would check out anyone who came to our house and occasionally attend church.

Growing up there were dogs and cats around most of the time. the cats were my favorites. But, I always thought I'd like a horse. That's really interesting because now I'm not so crazy about them. Go figure.
Thanks for the give-away.

My fav pet was a black cat called Susie... she was half siamese (OMG it showed in her stroppy personality too!) and she lived to see the grand old age of 21. She "nursed" me when I was sick... used to escort me back to bed or would go and tell tales to Mum if I wouldn't do as she was telling me!

Your hamster eating a cheez cracker is adorable! When I was growing up we had a squirrel monkey named Micky. He was very cute. When I was 16 and got my first paycheck, I bought another squirrel monkey but had to give her to a game farm as I couldn't find an apartment that would let me have her.
