It is National Sewing Month and Heather from the Sewing Loft asked me what my Favorite tool is.
My FAVORITE tool is my cutting table.. I can not LIVE without a table! Let's take a look at mine
This is the side I usually stand on, so I can look out the windows! I love working in this room because of the walk out doors and the vaulted ceiling.
Here is the view from the other side... I usually put the ironing board here. Do you see that cord on the floor in the kitchen? That is where I have to plug in the iron as I don't have enough power in this room for it! What we quilters will do for the perfect space.
People ALWAYS want to know how it's made. This is a DIY project.
The top is our FIRST formica dining set... serious! The Shipping Dept removed the legs and then purchased these cabinets from a Home Depot type store many years ago.. many many many years ago.
We bought 3 units. But the current room is too small to put all three under the table anymore so my table is smaller than it used to be.
My space is SMALL.. so every inch counts. This is where I keep some of my fabric
I'm always Dreaming of a bigger studio space
And the drawers are handy too!
Heather asked us if we were sewing this month.. and I am.. just not as MUCH as I'd like.. what's with that?
If you didn't know... I have a boat load of free patterns at my website. These are just a few of them. You can CLICK HERE to look at them all.. there are several pages!

Great idea for the cutting table. When my mom moves into assisted living, she's giving me her early 1950's dresser - 9 drawers, 6 large and 3 small. I plan on butting a top on it and use it for either a cutting table or an ironing table, not sure which. I agree on the iron. In our rental my ironing board is in the living room. In our new house to come, the iron gets its own 20 amp dedicated circuit and outlet with a switch so I can be doubly sure the iron is off.

Like your cutting table mucho! I have one I got at JoAnn's. It is fine and the good thing is both sides fold down and it takes up very little space. But drawers and shelves would be so great to have, keep some stuff off the top (maybe) .

I agree with Mary Ann, the smaller size of a space can keep things in check! But I've also found that the bigger the space, the bigger the projects and possibilities. Love that you can look outside - my new space is bigger, but in the basement. I miss hearing the birds! Love your table story. My DH made mine in woodworking college. I love it - perhaps my favourite piece of furniture in our home! Thanks for the peek into your space.

I love my table too, it is a kitchen butcher block table with an extended leaf on the back of it. The only problem is my room too is small and I rarely ever extend the leaf! I would give just about anything to have a bigger space.

LOVE your sewing table!!! Thanks for sharing with us! I am in the beginning stages of planning my sewing room and have been wondering what to do for cutting table. So, does your table extend (table leaf?)How is it fixed to the cabinets below? Thanks "sew" much :)
