Emily Herrick of "Crazy old Ladies" has men in her life, lots of them!
(Listen to my interview with her on April 30, 2012!)
A book about GUY quilts is MUCH needed. You have men in your life and honestly do they really want a quilt with flowers on it? I know my brothers, dad, nephews and brother-in-law's would prefer something else. (ok.. I HAVE given some of them quilts with flower fabric and baskets... and they are ok with that because they love me.. wink!)
There are Eight Mighty Manly quilts in this book and "High Voltage" is my favorite.
I love how it showcases the fabric and better yet I think there are a million fabric choices for it!
And Emily rocks some GREAT color theory for men, rumor has it she extensively polled every man she could find.. maybe at a fire house (i hear you can find some hot men there that might want quilts...... but that is JUST a rumor!)
Like this group of fabrics.. what do you think?
Yes there ARE some modern florals.. but I think the men will be ok with that... after all there ARE bottle caps... Emily's bottle cap fabric!
How how about these from my new Moda line called "Eat Your Fruits and Veggies" that will be shown next week at the trade show (get your shops to order it!)
Emily is giving away 30 ebooks in 30 days... wowzer!
To win a copy ...
tell me what man you LAST made a quilt for... think hard!

I have yet to make a quilt for a man. I have made my dad golf club covers and golf towel holders. I have fabric to make my husband and me a bed quilt in not TOO girly colors (LOL). I bought boy fabric to make a quilt for my great nephew when the sonogram said it was a boy. The next sonogram said it was a girl, and she is. We've made fleece blankets for the granddads. Never a quilt, though! This would be great inspiration! Thanks for offering this!

I honestly can't remember the last man I made a quilt for-probably my dad but I did make a pillow for Quilt Dad in the PTS and it was like a little quilt.

Other than baby boy quilts, the last 'man' quilt I made was for the DH. That quilt is trashed ( dogs, husband, wrestling, playing...) maybe he needs a new one. A much needed book.

The last one I made for a man was one for my son. It was made with the drunkard's path block, all in batiks. My current project is for my brother. It's a quilt-as-you-go using a log cabin style block. It was a tute from Penny at SewTakeaHike. It is turning out really cute. I think I have to make one for myself!

I haven't made any quilts for males yet. I've been wanting to make one for my son, but finding styles for guys has been hard. Perhaps this book will get me on the right track?

I made a raggy lap quilt for my hubby - it was made from cut up checked flannel shirts - (we call them Checkabanas here in Australia).
I have 3 little boys all wanting their own quilts now so your book would be great for ideas.
Thanks

I made a quilt for my husband. He loves it because it doesn't have any flowers on it!

The last one was a wedding quilt for my cousin. I followed the "Made In Cherry QA" and used Hometown fabric - and hope he loves the end result as much as I do. Thanks for a chance!

Last November I made a quilt for my son's 33rd birthday. I used Stonehenge greys for the focus blocks and the other blocks were made from lots of other fabrics in browns, greens, blues and tans ----all colors that would hide the dirt! He rides motorcycles so the I chose a pattern that looks like a lot of wheels running into each other. Wish I could send you a photo!

I made a quilt for my brother to keep on his boat. I called it "Dog Overboard" since he takes his dog, Joey, on his boat with.

A quilt to acknowledge my son's retirement from the Air Force after serving 22 years in active duty was the last quilt made for a man.

I just finished a Dr Seuss Sparkle Punch baby quilt and it was for a boy - if that counts... otherwise I'd have to say the brown/green/blue improv block quilt for my nieces boyfriend in September. I designed and sewed the top then she used it to learn to FMQ - she did awesome and it turned out great.

Don't know that I've ever made a quilt specifically for a man. I've made one for "us". And my husband made one for himself once (extra-long length).
