A nice BIG box...
of 12 wt Aurifil threads!!
in a RAINBOX of colors... yum yum!
12 wt is the embroidery wt we are using for the 2012 Aurifil Designer of the Month Series. Did you start your January block yet? Did you share a photo at our flickr folder?
ALSO read this post about a FABULOUS contest at Aurifil's Facebook page
wouldn't YOU like to WIN a suitcase of thread?? wow!
So I'm curious...
Do you buy a LOT of thread? Just basic colors?
What is your thread habit?

I love thread almost as much as fabric.
I have made the block and posted it on flickr. Can't wait for the next one.

I'm still waiting for the Auriful 12 weight get get here, then I can start the block of the month. :) I love thread...any kind of thread...doesn't matter if it is sewing thread, embroidery thread/floss...the more colors the better.

I love the Aurifil I won at Sew We Quilt last year. I have pieced some with it, and it sews so nicely! It is smooth and easy to work with. I love the colors they offer, too.

I use Aurifil for piecing...exclusively...usually I buy white, dark gray and light gray..

My piecing thread stash is relatively small, neutrals and basics. It's a different story with my longarm threads. I have 9 drawers full of thread for the longarm.

I have mostly neutrals since piecing is predominately what I do. I do have a stash of Mettler colors for applique...bought years ago before I had heard about Aurifil. I don't have a local source for any weight of Aurifil other than 50. Nice to see others online.

It's not that I buy a lot of thread, it's just that I love working with a different color palette every time I start a new quilt.
And don't you just have to buy the thread to match (or perhaps be a contrast). Love using Auriful in my projects as well as others I've accumulated.

My thread stash is pretty small, but only because I have stashes of lots of other things too. I pick thread by pulling a pleasing color palette...colors "I" like. Weight is important too. It's all about line quality. Thickness for visual weight and drama. And, I always buy thread of high quality...of course that includes Aurifil.

I just started using Aurifil 50wt for piecing this summer. There isnt a distributor nearby, so I stick to 2021 for colour. Love to try a heavier weight...maybe next time I make a purchase.

I do buy just basic colors mostly neutrals. I piece with it and mainly quilt with it too. I have some colors that I bought when I first started quilting, but I've changed that since being more experienced. Mother Goose like is my fav. color b/c it blends with everything.

I am fortunate to have a lot of threads - mostly Coats & Clark Dual Duty for quilting. I will definitely be looking for Aurifil now that I've been reading how good it is on your blog and from many comments above.
I have DMC and Anchor six strand embroidery thread and DMC perle cotton too. I was so lucky to win Natalie Lymer's "Cotton Floss" book with all those cute embroidered woodland people. I found some really bright, hippie-type colored floss to make them.
I'll have to get the Aurifil thread to use on the quilts I plan to make from the Little Bits book I won from you!!

I use a ton of thread...but don't have the luxury of a owning a lot of colours!! Would love to own and use a suitcase of colours!! And Aurifil...oh my!! Dreams can come true!! Thanks for the chance!!
Take care!

With each top I quilt, I need a new thread color! However, my collection is not extensive. I do some applique and since no local LQS in St. Louis sells Aurifil of any size, I end up with Sulky for machine applique b/c I cannot match fabric to thread colors online. I started doing hand embroidery last spring with perle cotton and I am having the same problem of finding a local store that carries any, or that carries any color selection.

First of all, I have to thank you for introducing me to Aurifil thread. I couldn't find it at any of my local quilt shops, but I did find it at one of the vendors at a big quilt show, so I bought two spools of the 50 wt. (black and white). I couldn't believe how nice it was to sew with. Unfortunately, like Donna who posted here, I am also on a fixed income, so I try to pick up a spool here and there when I can. I haven't tried the 12 wt. Do you use one strand or more when doing hand embroidery (redwork)? Would love to give it a try. Will you be selling it by the spool, or only in kits? The other threads that I use are Gutterman and Mettler. The closest shop to me (and too far away) that carries Aurifil is City Quilter.
I wrote to Alex on Facebook, and told him that he needed to visit the quilt shops on Long Island!
Aurifil is the BEST!

Having a Canadian distributor of Aurifil living in the same town and us being friends, my collection is extensive. I have mainly 50wt spools for piecing, applique and dense quilting. I loved working with the 12 wt recently, so may have to build up a few colours of that in my stash too.

I try to use Aurifil 50wt for sewing. LQS around here don't carry it or if they do no colors, just the basic. I've not used the 12wt at all and would love try it for my hand stitching projects. I'm using DMC for most stitching projects right now. Although, I love working with the hand dyed thread, Weeks,Valdani, Sampler Threads and Cresent.

Thread is my passion, I have only started using Aurifil threads this year, I will not buy anyother kind now, I only have one spool of 12 wt, its yellow I use whenever I can I love it...I have several of the 50 wt which my machine and I both love it...I am not a rich person, fixed income, but every month I will try to order as much as my budget will allow. Now that I have tried Auriful there is nothing else...
