Blog Hops- Day 3 of the ruler Hop and Texture Fall!

Yesterday we got to see Amanda Jean's 'trial' quilt... she was not sure she would REALLY like quilting so borrowed all the supplies from a friend! Now she pumps out quilts.. oh.... daily!

And Julie shared her early experience putting "letters" on quilts... and maybe not always the extact right way!

Both gave us enough calories to gain 10 lbs just LOOKING at the monitor.. and I think I licked the screen when I got to the pumpkin bars... oh my!

And I'll have a surprise for you on Sunday... don't you LOVE a surprise?

So Mom.. What Fall Textures do you remember?

Fall reminds me of corn husks in particular and then the leaves, piles and piles of them - the leaves living in Parkesburg and the corn husks living in Lemoyne because in Lemoyne there was a place near the grade school that must have been a feed mill that always had surplus corn around in the fall and the kids went there and gathered it up.

First let's chat about corn husks... I really don't have much memory or interest in them.. but I did a little google and .... Holy cow.. a project runway 'Corn Husk Dress'... yes it's real... click here to read about it!

Now for leaves I have a VERY strong memory!  When we leaving in Long Branch NJ our playground was at the back of the apartment complex. It FILLED with leaves each fall! The houses behind the playground area must have had huge trees that dropped EVERY leaf in our playground.

The staff would rake them into big piles and then we'd jump and play.. such FUN! We also built 'walls ' of leaves for forts. That was the best time in the playground!

And besides the INDIAN corn candy from yesterday I love those decorative corns.

What ARE these used for anyway.. Do you know? Tell me!

Do you like corn husks too? Mom wants to know!

The Edge Blop Hop is all about contrast. New rulers and first quilts. I am SO excited to read the stories about the 'first quilts'  of my friends.

Amy told us she did a whole baby quilt with JUST a 6" ruler! Holy cow I wonder why she continued!

Today is the Tastes of Fall

My all time FAVORITE Fall taste is a Caramel Apple. The Caramel is just the BEST when rolled in nuts. Anything rolled in nuts would be good! I think Nuts improve the taste of ALL foods...

Nuts on Salmon, with Brussels sprouts, in chocolate bars and on a cake..

NUTS ROCK!

and nuts are followed by Indian Corn candy. You have to have the chocolate bit on it! Maybe I'll make up Gudrun's project from the hop with Indian corn!

So Mom.. What Fall Taste memories do you have?

Tastes was an easy one for me because it took me to my childhood fall dinners with the Krantz grandparents and my favorite was chocolate fudge with black walnuts. 

Mama Krantz Black Walnut Fudge

Ingredients:  Butter, sugar, chocolate chips, evaporated milk, marshmallow crème, vanilla, and black walnuts

• 1/4 cup butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 2/3 cup evaporated mild
• 2/3 cups (12 oz) semi sweet chocolate chips
• 1 jar (7 1/2 ounces) marshmallow crème
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 cup chopped black walnuts
• some whole black walnuts for garnish, optional (nice);

Heat in heavy 3 quart skillet over low heat.  Add sugar and evaporated milk; stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a rolling boil.  Continue to boil for about 4 minutes or until a candy thermometer registers 226 degrees.  Remove from heat.  Add chocolate chips; stir until melted.  Stir in marshmallow crème, black walnuts, and vanilla until well blended.  Pour into a greased 9 inch square baking pan.  Place on rack to cool.  Garnish with whole walnuts if desired. Refrigerate for several hours, or until cool enough to cut into squares.  Cover and store in refrigerator.  Makes about 4 dozen

Eat and enjoy!!!

Blog Hops- Day 2 First Quilt Experiences and Smells of Fall!

  Day 2 Of "The Edge" Blog hop! 

 I was so excited to be asked by the "Sullivan" notions company to work with them to develope a set of rulers with a revolutionary new feature.

The right side of each ruler has a Diamond Carbide sharpener imbedded in it. So each time you cut on that side you are tuning up your rotary cutter.. sweet!

My FABULOUS blog friends are sharing their  FIRST QUILT experiences with us. I thought that would be a fun contrast to something so new! And they are sharing a yummy recipe too!

Our topic for the day is "Fall Scents". 

I'm having such a great time asking my mom to share her thoughts on this blog hop!  

So mom.. what 'smells' make you think of fall? 

"The really big one would be the food scents related to the holidays, pies, especially pumpkin, fruit pies, apple etc., and apple cider although I do not remember you liking that or not as a child.  I liked wood and leaves burning in the fall a lot, still do."

I TOTALLY adore the smell of ANYTHING baking.

I have a apple cider story that fits another day better..so I'll share it then!

Fall has that CRISP air smell.. do you know what I mean? The air is just different when fall arrives. I love to put on a sweater and walk the neighborhood in the fall. Maybe earlier in the morning before the sun warms it up too much. And maybe.. just maybe someone has a fire going (which i like better than laundry smell .. but I sort of like the smell of dryer sheets... but I digress!)

** What smell do you like? Laundry? firesplaces? PIES??? **

TRUE CONFESSION TIME - HOW do I take a photo of CRISP AIR? Of a pie I don't have? Of Fall leaves that are not here yet?  Well I took some creative license to share some pictures off the net!

The topic today for our "Fall-O-Ween" blog hop is "Fall Colors"

I decided to ask my mom to join me in this look at Fall! You know we forget a lot of things we did as a child and our moms' seem to remember it all don't they? I'm excited to have my mom on the blog hop with me to share fall this year!

What color IS fall? Oranges come to mind first thing... and my mom told me that I always loved Orange because of the pumpkins and loved the leaves changing. She says I was "always ready for the changes".

And you know what? I STILL love it when the leaves change (although now I wish they would wait just a bit longer!). I also adore pumpkins... all shapes and sizes ... there are so many luscious shades of orange to inspire me!

The process of thinking about Fall colors has got me itching to take the bunnies off the corner shelf and find my fall decorations.. my pumpkins and crows and leaves need to come out of the box!
